Schoolwide Learning Expectations

Kinder – 2nd Grade

A St. Athanasius student is:

I. A person of faith who:

  • builds a friendship with Jesus through praying
  • uses knowledge from Bible stories and our faith to make good choices
  • helps those in need
  • acts as a peacemaker
  • respects God’s creation

II. A critical thinker who:

  • uses clues and what he or she already knows to understand new things
  • thinks logically to solve puzzles
  • works daily to build upon what he or she knows
  • uses his or her creative brain to think of new ideas
  • uses the teachings of Jesus to make decisions

III. An active learner who:

  • expresses his or her thoughts and feelings through speaking, writing and art
  • listens actively
  • reads carefully
  • asks questions in order to learn more
  • explores the world around him or her to discover new things

3rd – 8th   Grade

A St. Athanasius student is:

I. A person of faith who:

  • knows and understands Catholic sacraments, traditions, and values
  • lives Gospel values and is a peacemaker
  • is respectful of self, others, and the environment, and acts accordingly
  • makes moral choices and serves others
  • embraces all people as their brothers and sisters in Christ

II. A critical thinker who:

  • applies higher order thinking skills in their daily  lives
  • asks questions to gain further knowledge and understanding
  • works daily to build upon existing knowledge and skills
  • uses his or her creative brain to innovate and problem solve
  • analyzes and evaluates new information to determine its value and merit  to decide its application in his or her own life

III. An active learner who:

  • demonstrates a solid foundation in all core subject areas
  • uses reading, thinking, and research skills to discover, innovate, and express new ideas
  • takes responsibility for his or her own learning and recognizes learning as a life-long quest
  • is able to work independently and collaboratively in diverse settings
  • effectively utilizes technology to enhance and share learning
